‘Twas the night before launch day, in the factory so bright, All circuits were working, all testers in sight. The BOMs were all frozen, approved line by line, In hopes that no shortages surfaced this time.
The Gantt charts were posted, color-coded with care, While engineers whispered, “No whammies, no errs.” PCBAs lay nestled, in trays row by row, Waiting for the reflow ovens softly to glow.
When out on the floor there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my desk to see what was the matter. Away to the line I flew in a flash, Tripped over a pallet… oops that one is trashed.
The glowing hot tips on fresh solder joints shone, As operators toiled, fully locked in their zone. When what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a rack of boards, production ready, finally here!
With a multimeter so precise and so keen, I knew in a moment Ohm readings were clean. Click, buzz, then beep, every network checked right, “No shorts, no opens, we are go to ship tonight!”
To production! To packaging! To outbound we go! No ECOs at midnight, please don’t say it so! From reflow to the final, the line found its groove, Every takt time respected, bottlenecks removed.
The buyers were dreaming of parts soon to arrive, Each transistor accounted, each capacitor live. When no old EOLs, no lead times obscene, But vendors all delivering, exactly what we had seen.
More rapid than emails, the test results they came, We called out the metrics and logged every gain: “First-pass great yield! And traceability too! Regulatory docs, heck yes, those are approved!”
“But wait”! cried QA, a clipboard in hand, “One torque spec’s ambiguous, please help me understand.” A quick review later, consensus achieved, Another near-miss, we dodged tonight, and all relieved.
The CM sent photos, every carton just so, Barcodes neatly aligned in a palletized row. “Labels verified, serialized right, We will book the last truck before the dawning light.”
On the assembly line, dashboards softly gleamed, While planners refreshed them far more than they’d dreamed. Inventory balanced, a miracle, that’s true, Not a single component (amazingly) flagged, “past due.”
So on to the customers, so eager, so keen, Unaware of the drama that might have been seen. For behind every product, robust and polite, Is a team that earned sleep… well, part of the night.
The firmware was flashing on units in line, “Just one more quick check, this’ll finish on time.” No bricked boards, no retries, no version mismatch, The checksum agreed, cue a quiet dispatch.
As the shift wound down and the bright lights faded low, We smiled at the numbers, given the green status glow. And I heard the ops lead, exclaim out in delight: “Happy scaling to all and a smooth build tonight!”
